OUR STORY
After 12 years of working in event management Malcolm discovered the joys of brewing using a basic set up in his garage. He was quite taken with the process of brewing, the fact it is as much science as an art…and that was when the hobby turned into more.
Cargo’s likes to do things differently, their innovative and distinctive design is credited to MakeBardo (Queenstown), who took their idea of moving away from stereotypical beer labels, to create something simple and representative of the essentials of the product. The Cargo design has been featured in design magazines and blogs around the world and has won various awards.
Cargo Brew Hall opened in July 2024. The venue offers a modern, versatile and high-tech space for brewing and beer experience events.
Located 15 minutes from Central Queenstown and with a capacity of 250 the venue offers an exciting new addition to Queenstown's beer scene.
What sets us apart?
From our new venue you can join us on a sensory adventure through the brewery and experience first-hand what it takes to get from grain to glass. We encourage you to use all your senses for a fully immersive experience. You will be taken on tour by one of our friendly and passionate guides, explaining more about the brewing processes. Your tour includes a guided tasting experience comprised of 4 of our favourite brews, and a selection of perfectly paired nibbles. When your tour concludes, relax in our garden with a brew of your choice in hand or opt for one of our extra experiences within the brewery.
Most Famous Style?
Our Gold Medal Winning Cargo Porter is packed with roasted malt flavour and sports a creamy, tan head that lasts until the final drop.
With a grain combination of crystal, black and chocolate malt you can imagine the captivating aroma that hits you as you pour a glass. Silky smooth with a full bodied flavour brimming with malt, coffee, butterscotch and chocolate … yum!
